Try
explaining some of the details of your past to someone unfamiliar with alcohol or drug addiction and they will often recoil from such testimony with disgust or pity. I
believe that such a response is partially due to a common experience with
alcoholics and addicts that the leopard cannot change its spots. At best they
might say something like, “Thank you very much but that is way more than I
ever wanted to know about you.”
We
are called to demonstrate that psychic change rather than talk about it with
anyone other than those we are trying to help. The world will
only “receive us back into its citizenship” when we show that change in the way we work, the way we play and the
way we treat others. Amen. Shalom. Salome. Namaste.
