The Learning Never Ends

The best teachers are as enthusiastic about the subject as they expect their students to be. The only way I know of to do this is to remain as flexible and teachable as I expect my charges. One of my favorite art instructors took each student’s work as seriously and enthusiastically as did his students. When performing the delicate ego smashing exercise of a critique, Ken Knack seemed to be able to get inside the mind of the student and see that person’s efforts in the same light, regardless of technical skill, as did the student. In this sense the teacher became a pupil and they brought to each other a better understanding, joy and fulfillment of painting.
